You can come to my house and borrow them, but asking for e-copies is tantamount to theft. The Smiths sell the whole collection for a very reasonable price, and they are nice people. Do yourself a favor and buy them.
it would be a reasonable price for u ...but for us (people in this region) where 1USD = 85RS try buying it then.....i will see how many will buy the original....i m sure even smith wont mind not earning profit on 1 of his many books sold and would rather be happy spreading the info to the masses in underdeveloped countries

If you want to take that approach you could try contacting the people who publish the books and see what they think...

If you can't afford the cost and your school is not willing to buy the series for their library, then how do you manage to build a car in the first place?
Try Amazon used books for a better deal than retail, that is considering the shipping is similar.
I know money is a serious issue for Indian teams, but there are legal, respectable ways to get these kind of resources without shelling out your money.
Consider asking for the Smith's, Pegasus Auto Racing, SAE, or another retailer for a sponsorship.

It is also hard to take you seriously when you spell his name wrong.
So no.

There are already good discounts available from SAE on his books, and as others have mentioned this is a small investment compared to the cost of the program as a whole. I will not endorse this intellectual theft.

Bought it through the SAE for the discount. While it is quite pricey for individuals but for a team it shouldn't.
However, I really wish if developing countries may reach an agreement with the developed to somehow find a way for regional pricing without cutting of features and specs to a great expense.
There is a huge untapped market in these countries thanks to its population so it would be a win-win case.
This is not an excuse for breaching intellectual rights but just an opinion of how to improve the situation.

The purpose of the FSAE competition is to help train students how to be professional engineers. Beyond just learning how to solve real world technical problems another objective should be to learn some professional ethics. Stealing someone's IP is not ethical.
If you can get a discount or a donated set--fair enough but don't think you are entitled to a free copy just because you are in an emerging region. If you can't afford a set of Carroll's books then you can't afford to compete in FSAE.
Certainly a copy of his books will be the best value for the money of anything you do buy for your car.

Of course not! These books are what I learned engineering from and are the life's work of one of the biggest supporters of FSAE. I'm not going to help you steal them.
Amazon.com has Tune to Win for $9.25 used and Engineer to Win for $13.90 used. Buy them there if you don't want to wait for a reprint.
Firstly im Pakistani not an Indian
secondly i already purchase books by
Competition car suspension by Allan Staniforth
Race Car vehicle dynamics by Milliken
Race car aerodynamics by Joseph Katz
Motor Vehicle Structure by Jason C Brown
Racing & Sports Car Chassis Design by Costin & few others
so i have already spent close to 300$ on books and still i left the most important books i.e Tune to Win
Engineer to Win
& being a team leader i m quite pissed by the limited amount of money available from sponsors being spent on the books...thats why i asked .....but i dont need it any more as my aunt from Virginia USA is sending the whole set as a gift to me...
lastly yes we dont have enough resources to even think about participating in such a colossal international event but by GOD we will be there i.e Formula Student UK 2012 (insahallah)

I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't say that as a team we didn't buy lots of the reading materials and software we used. In fact, my suggestions to buy the books especially Carrol Smith's were shot down and ended buying it myself after the project ended.
However, as an individual, I'm still guilty of it although I'm depending more and more on open source programs and freeware, and buying what I need.
Not proud of it but respecting intellectual property is quite a problem in developing countries and are a fundamental one. Piracy is the norm and if otherwise then you are considered crazy and wasting money. I have not seen a single awareness program regarding this matter, although there was a student group in the college who were spreading open source awareness between students.

This reminds me, I've seen quite a few textbooks printed as a "low-cost" or "international" edition which are at least supposed to be only for sale in certain countries outside of the U.S. and western Europe. Same textbook, only soft-bound, printed in black and white (so some of the figures are messed up, but better than nothing), and on lower quality paper. Also, legitimate e-books are becoming more popular, and naturally they cost less. Would also solve the problems of these books being intermittently out of print.

The problem is that technical books are not offered here in Egypt, special editions or not, and whatever agreement was done with the past governments it was only a way for the regime to suck 'mo money' from the deal and nothing ever comes to the citizen. I wish there is a direct way to sell such editions to the individuals by passing the corrupt systems.
Guess what? A case has been raised about $30 Billion of US' aid to Egypt through the previous 30 years was vanished.
Bibilotheca Alexandrina was a front for Suzan Mubarak to increase her income with foreign donations and the library utilization is no where near it's capacity. In the automotive section I can only find 5 or 6 worthy books.
