Has anyone had any experience with the Supertrapp 443-2010 mufflers? We're going to install them on our car (CBR600F4i powered) and I was wondering whether anyone else had used them, and if so whether they passed the noise regs. Summit Racing says they're "perfect for street rods" - does this mean they'll reduce noise to a street-legal level?

Typically, places like Summit that sell "street" parts are about as good of an engineering resource as a used car salesman.

rumor has it that our school showed up with a supertrap years ago...

...the design judges pointed and laughed.

We've used Supertrapps for years. You can control the backpressure with the discs and we never had problems passing sound. We also never had a problem putting out 70 Hp w/ a flat torque curve on a full size dynojet either.

Sure there are better mufflers out there, but you'll impress a judge more if you can acutally test and prove what you are using and why you chose it.

2 years ago we used a single Supertrapp car muffler on our F4i engine, but we could not get it quiet enough no matter how many plates we removed. Instead, we bought a Honda muffler while in Michigan, and we installed it to pass the noise test and continue with the other events. Our quietest with the Supertrapp was 117 db I believe, and with the stock Honda muffler, the noise level was 102 db.

The real problem with supertrapps is that they sound like absolute ass on just about any kind of motor http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. They make a 600 cc inline 4 sound like a scrap metal grinding machine.

since were on mufflers, we ran the Flowmaster Hushpower II tank of a muffler on our 04 car, it was free, its stainless steel and squeaked by sound testing. Unlike most, our car has a nice deep throaty sound, not that ricy wine...too bad the damn thing weights 11 lbs!!

Haha a huge Flowmaster on an FSAE car. That's funny. Now, let me tell you the secret to taking out some of that ricy whine - take out your O2 sensor. It will give your exhaust a nice mean sound. We call it the "power plug" http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.
