A group of my friends (yes I have some) are planning a summer motorcycle trip. We have not finished picking the destination, but we are looking at Deal's Gap in North Carolina. It would be approx. one week, and frickin sweet. For those that would be coming from far away, we could do support vehicles, or like my pals and I are doing, trailer the bikes. Right now we are looking at June 23-30 or something like that.

Bikes that are in: 1 Superhawk, 2 SV650s, 1 Interceptor, and maybe 2-3 R6's.

If you are interested, let me know. We would probably find a campsite, or the likes, and make one hell of a party out of riding.

That sounds awesome Bill. Deal's gap is a fun place to drive, but be careful. Our suspension guy was riding up there last fall and lowsided his SV1000-S, nearly sliding off a cliff in the process. 3 other riders that weekend werent so lucky http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

on a lighter note, A couple of teammates/friend and myself have created a "cannonball run" of sorts for late July. We will have 4 cars with two people per car, and going from Savannah to Texas and back.

Is it a real cannonball run, or is it just a cruise? What does the winning team get?

Anyway, about the gap, we realize that there are real significant dangers to riding at the limits, especially on a mountain pass. We will probably set up some type of group ride guidlines to prevent the horrible from happening. Anyway, I heard that they are cracking down on reckless riding.

It's more like a rally, where at the end of each day when we meet at a campsite we pick the goal out of a hat for the next day. pretty much we are just doing random crazy stuff and not racing.

We don't have a prize yet, but whatever it is should be good. We are always looking for more teams to join us too!

If we're doing a summer ride- why not put it off until mid July for the USGP at Laguna Seca.

Part of the reason is that we all want to ride. Not that were not into watching others ride, its just that if were going to take time off, we better be putting on the miles to make it worthwhile.

You could come across the mountain into TN and ride the dragon's tail to Knoxville to come see the UTK FSAE guys http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

The gap is a great destination! Its doable to leave lexington (U of KY) early, ride all day and get home after dark, so I've hit it about 10 times in the last four years on two wheels and four.

STAY ON YOUR SIDE OF THE MASSIVE YELLOW LINE IF YOU PLAN TO LIVE.

Get as much "weekday time" on the dragon as possible. This really is a big deal. It can get dangerous on the weekends. Also talk to the local photo pros, they will get you some AMAZING shots. I got this one last summer:

If you guys hit it at the right time, I'll ride down. If you roll down I-75 to get there, I'll hook up in Lexington. I love the gap, aesecially camping and riding down there.
