Hi everybody!

My name is Aitor, I live in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Canary Islands, Spain) and I need your help and experience... I don´t know if I am in a correct forum, because this is not relative to FSA racing... Sorry if I´m wrong... But I have looked for help, but nobody did for a project I have in mind years ago...
To make a NA engine Turbo! I´ve always have this dream... Ok, Let´s go on:

The fact is, that I have a quad, a Suzuki LTZ 400 cc, but it was a little away in a corner in my garage, and i decided to make it turbo... I took the engine out, and dissasembled all parts of the engine, part by part, to start from the very beginning...

Well, I found the four valves in very bad condition, the piston skirt was scratched also the cylinder liner, bearings of the conrod and crankshaft were out of service limit, the oil pump had scratches inside... Oh, not a good start http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

So, I decided to get some bore cylinder kit, maybe some 440 cc, with cylinder liner and forged piston, buy new good quality bearings, new competition camshafts, good quality valves and seats, also springs, new oil pump... Well, I have all time of my life to build it, but, I want to do it as well as I can... That´s way I´me here, I´d be so glad if you guide me...

Another question is the turbo, I was thinking in a garret GT12, a small turbo to make my quad a little wild, the range of operating is from 0.4 l. to 1.2 liters, exactly what I need

The main problem I have is the compression ratio, is about 11.3 : 1, very high, and I have to look for a setup, maybe a low compression piston, or a crankshaft-conrod kit to reduce the compression, because of the detonations problems... But I didn´t find anything yet...

If you want I can post all info I have of this engine (Stroke, displacement, bore...) or whatever you want and please, ask me and guide me all you´d like!

Thanks from Canary Islands!

2 years ago we ran the honda 400 ex atv motor. we used a dry sump, polished head and a gt 12.

to lower the CR we used a wiseco piston, im not sure the exact model or even the final CR but i think it was around 9:1

McMasteRacer thank you for your apport, maybe I have to look for a wiseco piston, let´s have a look... The engine you are talking about was an air cooled engine? Maybe it was the Honda TRX400 Quad engine... Don´t you have any more info about this project?
Thanks MC!

that is the engine that we used,

what other info are you looking for?

I mean, how many Hp did you get from the Honda engine, how much boost did you give, any internals modifications? Carburator? Programmable CDI?

Thanks McMasteRacer!

As for internal modifications the only thing we did was to shim the valve springs to make them a little stiffer, but that was because we raised the red line of the motor as well as an internal port and polish of the head.

im not sure about the HP we made, the dyno we use in our shop is a water break dyno, and the amount of torque created by this motor was to much for the dyno, so our team is very weary of the number we got.

we used megasquirt as a standalone ecu

You took out de carburator and put injection of gas with a megasquirt?

yes we replaced the carburetor with our own fuel injection system. the computer we used to control the system was a megasquirt ecu system

it is still possible to use the carburetor as log as you are able to change the amount of fuel delivered by using a different jet within the carb

Oh man! Thank you for letting me know about the Megaskirt... This is an all in one device! I can program the spark advance, the injections, view all kinds of temperatures, Air/fuel Ratio, Air pressure... A perfect way to tune, isn´t it?

Do you remember which injector body did you use? And the size of the injector? For making me an idea...

Sorry for all questions I´m making to you, but you are helping me so much!
