Just wonderign if any teams had experianced upright failure? Back or front, and if so how it failed.

Yes, but not during driving.
We had tried cast 357 Aluminum uprights to save on machining time. Casting quality wasn't the greatest, had pores on the order of 1mm, some of them located at stress-concentrated areas.
Pressed in the main bearing just fine, but when the guy went to press in the hub the upright broke in two, one chunk flew up and hit the kid in the head.
We are now very wary of using cast parts.
