Desparately looking for an engine CAD file for the 2003 F4i, either .prt or .dwg. Our CMM machine is not big enough to fit our engine on the table to get all of the exact measurements to finish the design of our engine mounts and differential carrier.
Cheers

I'm but a whipper snapper myself, but whatever happened to the old fashoned way, eh? http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The old fashion way is not going to give me a 3 axis measurement accurate to .001 inches. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Well, if anybody ponies-up with a good CAD model, let me know. We've been struggling with "the old fashioned way" for a long time now, never got anybody to look for a sponsor to scan it for us, and it's been biting us in the ass repeatedly.

Well, I have a CAD model for a 600 RR, but I wasnt sure how similar it would be to the F4i. My assumption (ass-of-u-and-me) says it is probably the same with lightweight parts and more balancing being the differences, but I don't like making asses. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Well, with that assumption, I think you were well on your way to making one. The 600RR has a stacked transmission like the Yamaha R6....so I don't think it is even close.

Yeah I figures something would be out. So far the mounting points match up pretty good though. Could you pull a RR engine and mount it into the frame of a F4i?

the 600rr is not much like the f4i

Ot'l get close, if you take the time. Getcha a good flat table, some 18" dial calipers, some paper. Turn some metric bolts in all the sizes you need down into center indicators. Mabye a height gage, straight edge, and a good scale. All that and a legal pad, you're good to go. You don't need it to be accurate to within a thou, anyway.
I'd trust my own mesaurements before some model off the internet that I knew nothing about, anyway.
Center indicator=
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~|
|
_____
| bolt cut down with
____| nipple of known dia
| (usually .200")
|
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
^^ Threads into hole, then you have a good center to measure to. You can buy 'em too, if you're lazy.

Hey Cement Legs,
I would greatly appreciate it if you would be willing to share the CAD model for the 600 RR. It would allow my engine team to get going faster. What program was it done on? Thanks so much in advance.

It was done in AutoCad. Like someone mentioned above, I would suggest using it as a guide to confirm measurements but if they start to line up it will save tons of time. Email me and I'll reply with the attachement. The compressed file is about 700kb.

http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Apparently it is not from a RR. I've just found out from the first team that I sent it to. SInce my bolt pattern was starting to match up with our engine, I will check the rest today and if they match up then it is the F4i that I was looking for. I found the file on the internet somewhere and it was labeled 'RR'. And that's why you gotta be careful with the info you collect, even from this site. Good thing we aren't all just monkeys... hmm would being a monkey be sooo bad? http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Try searching the forums. It's worked in the past...

The F4i on the site listed in the above post is not super accurate, but may help with your packaging. Mounting the block on a mill table with some dowels and an edge finder can get you all the mount locations. You definitely should double check all the features on the engine are actually on the model. Cam chain tensioner rings a bell in my head...

HAHAHA... thats funny, cause that's the file that I already have. I found it somewhere marked '03 Honda 600 RR. Anyway that pretty much puts me right back to where I started, which wasn't a bad spot to begin with. Thanks for all of the input, case closed http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.
Cheers
ps For anyone who uses UniGraphics I almost have the part remade as a .prt file. For some reason it wont export/import properly.
