rack and pinion doubt

on what factors does the turns lock to lock depend?
I believe that there should be some torque to hold the wheels in a particular steered angle. Is it very relevant for the calculations? how to go about this concept?
kindly suggest me a good site where the excel sheet for rack and pinion calculation is available
kindly put up with my ques( if they r silly) coz i am a first timer

Look in the sticky thread on what books you should read, then try to get a hold of them. Also, search the forums because this topic has been discussed a bunch of times. Usually I try to respond to posts like this in a helpful way, but I'm tired right now and I have to go to work.
