In general how small is too small when it comes to control arm material?

We're looking at using some 0.5" x 0.035 wall 4130, but some folks on our team are bit nervous the arms will be too weak.

We're not really sure about how to estimate the loads the arms will actually see. We plan on running 10-inch wheels with 18x6 Hoosiers in the front and 18x7.5s in the rear. Our mass with driver should be about 625 pounds.

Sorry if this has been beaten to death, but the search function isn't turning up what I'm looking for.

Ugh. Sorry, it's been a long day of studying for my DE test tomorrow.

Everyone please excuse my obvious boneheadedness.

forget how much load it will see in a corner.

figure out if it can take a cone right in the middle at 35 mph. if it can, then it is strong enough for everything else http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
