I have been looking for a while for a CAD model for gsx-r 600. All I can find is an older (98 i think) model.

If no one has a CAD model, how do teams go about integrating the engine into the frame in CAD? What do most people do?

One way is to CMM the engine mounting locations. That will give you X,Y,Z coordinates (and angles if you wish) back to whichever datum you wish to use. Industry-standard practice is crank centerline at rear face of block, but that's tricky on a bike motor with integrated transmission. Maybe drive sprocket CL at the CL of the chain line as a datum, or pick one of the mounting bosses as your 0,0,0 point.

You can also use the CMM to give you the extents of the envelope or "box" of the engine for packaging purposes, port locations for your intake manifold team, etc. Basically map the engine.

Reverse engineering at its finest.

thanks pengouin 85 - i will take a look into whether the mounting points changed during the more recent years.

AutoJim, the problem is that we dont actually have the engine in our hands yet. But wed like to be able to give some points to the frame guys so they can work on integrating everything.
