View Full Version : People Getting Ready for Australian Comp

HONESTLY, How are teams going in getting prepared for the Aussie Comp? At the rate we are going we will still be welding on the drive down to Melbourne. Currently the car has a good chance of making the 2007 comp in great nick but 06 will be one big mission. Thank heavens for the big event that will be going on in Melbourne in the first week of December. The extra two weeks will be truly needed this year. Thats our story, what is going and more importantly not going in the other Aussie teams?

Which team are you with?
As far as i know, from the regularly updated team websites, that adelaide and auckland are the only ones running.
hey guys
we are rolling as of tonight. I will try and post some photos on our website. We are trying our hardest to be driving on sunday and all is looking well.
Yer were also thanking erin and the commonwealth games for pushing the date back to the 17th.

We finished painting our car yesterday and have installed the engine, diff and intake. We're only waiting on uprights and fuel tank, so hoepfully the car will be drivable by the weekend. If only we didn't have to do exams. The fact that they moved the comp has stuffed us around plenty. Degree conferals are on the wednesday and graduation parade is on thrusday so most of our team won't get to melbourne until thursday with the guys going on grad parade getting there hopefully friday morning.
Cheers

We're hating the change as it has made fights many much more moneys. The car is undergoing a final rebuild and check and then all systems go.
Waikato are also up and running and looking good. So the Kiwi invasion begins.

We've been driving since august.... hopefully all little gremlins will be sorted by comp.
Chris, are you UQ? is the car going well yet?
bah
if the car is only assembled 2 days before the comp, it has less chance of breaking. (fatigue)
Chris Boon
11-15-2006, 04:55 PM
Yeah I am from UQ, we arent as bad as I first made out but time is becoming our enemy. We should get a few days of testing in and fingers crossed nothing major breaks or we are ******. Fatigue shouldnt be an issue for us this year.
The date does have negative consequences for us too, graduation is on the Friday of comp which means one or the other. But if it was two weeks earlier then we probably wouldnt have the car finished.

SwinbURne aren't rolling just yet - still a bit of fi(s)t-and-finish to go. There's plenty of adelaide pics on their website. Oh, saw pics of the Wesmo contender too - good to see another aluminium monocoque joining the ranks (see you guys on the 12th).

Good to hear things are going well for some of you. Sorry, but the real reason I'm posting here is to plug my thread in the off topic section. I figured this is one place where all you Australian guys (and girls?) are looking at regularly....so yeah. Your imput is appreciated, and I hope the title isn't offensive. I don't think it is. You're called Aussies, right?

Maybe a stupid question, but will there be a return of the wings?
There will be a return of wings, scott wordley is still here so they will be BIGGER (if scott had his way the car would be a NACA profile) AND BETTER than ever!

any word from woolongong?
why is the thermostat so far from the motor?
UQ Turbo
11-26-2006, 07:33 AM
The thermostat housing was in the way of all our suspension, so we just made a new one.
Helps with getting the speedflow working too.
Yeah, we're running a turbo...hopefully. Hasn't even been on the dyno yet though. Doesn't help that people pull out at the last minute and leave someone else to fill in the gaps.
Good luck to all in our position, needing more time...

From that angle it still looks like the coolant pipes are very close to the suspension to me.
Oh and if you do end up sending out those papers Scott, I'd very much appreciate a copy.

Yeah the coolant hoses do come very close to the rockers but they do miss. Everything is like this in our car with luck and fate playing a big part.
ohhh thats whats missing... lets do the time warp again. I believe monash is stuck in the sixties, just wait for the interior.
Speaking of whats missing, hows the search for the missing three cylinders going?

Ah Filsy,
Can help with your query re missing cylinders. We've got one, Tokyo Denki has got another and from memory the third one was being used by Vic Uni. Share the love, boys. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
See if you Claytonites hadn't spent all your money collecting surplus cylinders, you might have been able to afford some rockers.
Can't wait to see the retro-racer next week. You growing some mutton chops for the occasion?
Cheers,
Frank "Ruska" Roeske

Monashs missing suspensionparts are not in Germany. Only things we are having is a battery and some arm restraints.
Sorry guys, canĀ“t help you from Germany!
The guru of guru's
11-30-2006, 04:30 PM
If we add all these missing cylinders together we should have an engine capacity in the vicinity of 2lt, surely that cant be legal...but neither can a stubby holder be, in the cockpit of a fsae-a car. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Well, our car has wheels, i think they are in the cupboard.
We would like to relocate them to the suspension, but it seems to be somewhere other than the chassis.
Time to spread out and search for it, i will look in the pub.

We've approached the FSAE-A comp this year with a new and fresh design that we all feel is optimal. We're quietly confident of its potential on the racetrack.

Greetings all,
Wheelbase is around 1530 again, chassis is wider than last year so for driver ergo reasons, weight was around 137kg at the launch night a week back but a few final changes might bump it up over 140kg. Wheels have carbon outers, inner suspension clevii are adjustable vertically with a range of around 30mm. Maybe Jake / Andrew / Ganesh / Grinchy or the crew might like to get on here and discuss their own designs - although they are all flat out at the moment and probably won't be able to until after the comp.
Looking forward to seeing all the other teams in a couple of weeks.
Cheers,
