War Eagle Motorsports (that's Auburn, y'all!) is teaming with Red Bull and the Barber Motorsports Park (outside Birmingham) to host an FSAE practice competition on 24 January, 2009. Barber is opening their outstanding facility to us, and Red Bull is bringing the party and making it happen. Events are Acceleration, Skid Pad, Autocross, and Endurance, and we think we can get it all done in one day. Accel and Skid are in parking lots. AutoX and Endurance are on a 1.1 mile segment of Barber's road course (coned to FSAE specs). Plenty of rig parking space in the paddocks. This practice is open only to FSAE cars that have passed tech and still have their sticker (no 09 cars!). Cars will be inspected to make sure they are still in condition to pass tech for the year of their sticker. Full FSAE rules for conduct and safety will apply.
This event has grown under Red Bull sponsorship from Auburn and Alabama at a go-kart track in 2006, to nine teams and 11 cars at Talladega in 2007, skipped a beat in 2008, and is now brought to us at the most beautiful motorsports facility in the USA. If you missed it in 08, please come down this year (and maybe even get some non-snow driving!). The business purpose of this event is to give teams practice pushing a car through an FSAE event schedule, so you can perform better in Spring. But we will be taking times, there will be trophies, and we expect you to have fun.
Teams must register in advance and give us a rough idea of how many people they will bring (we need that for planning purposes). Feel free to ask questions (helps us think of things we might have forgotten to provide for). And we need volunteer course layers, course workers, tech inspectors, timer, judges - please contact me if you can help.

One car for university of Maryland, College park. Can we bring a shifter or is there a strict FSAE car only rule?

I agree that would be fun, but I'm afraid we can only allow FSAE cars with tech stickers.

Are there any other Illinois / Wisconsin / Minnesota schools thinking about this who might be interested in sharing transport? We have trailer issues, and if anyone has extra space they'd be willing to share for our car that might have some influence.
Let me know directly.
We have lots of Saabs in which to take extra people in comfort, and at great speed.
Best,
Drew

What are the rules on drivers? Do we need 4 drivers per car? If we bring two cars can we share drivers?
We'd like to bring 2 cars but I don't think we'll even have 8 people there. Can alumni drive the car?
Thanks,
WJ

Ideally, we would like to stick to the FSAE driver rules, but if you're personnel-limited, we can work with you. But please no alumni drivers. The purpose of this event is to give current teams practice at moving through the schedule in order to improve their performance in actual competition - that's why Barber and Red Bull are sponsoring. Please do bring your alumni - we need good course workers!
