View Full Version : Driver's Restraint Harness Attachment

After reaidng the rules one more time, we found out that there is a 1" O.d. x .065" wall requirement for the driver's restraint harness attachment except for the shoulder, which is even beefier.
My question is that, for a 5 point harness, is this rule only required for the lap belt mounts? Or is it required for the crotch belt mount also. For the crotch belt mount we just have an "X" welded across the bottom of the chassis where the driver would sit. None of those tubes for the "X" meet the requirement.
We just want to make sure whether it was necessary for us to weld more tubes before we do so. Thanks

Switch to 6 point belts, which is what you should have anyway, and use the same mounting points as you have provided for the lap belts.
There are a number of SAE papers that discuss the benefits of 6 point belts vs 5 point belts.

You mean "Anti-Submarine Strap," or Anti-Sub for short.
Just a touch easier on the eyes.

Horace,
Officially you need to attach the anti-sub belts (crotch straps) to 1.00 " x 0.065" steel tubing. If you don't, just hope that the tech inspectors don't check with that ultra sonic tester they have! Or you will have to find some tubing and a good welder!
