Hey all,

Competitions coming up, hope everyone is on track on where they need to be.

We will be heading to Michigan and was wondering if any teams would be able to post their 'what to bring' checklists. We noticed at Formula North we were mooching for things we never thought we needed, and I would notice things that would have made our team's life a lot easier. Here is my checklist just so that I can actually contribute:

(PS. Oh, yes... Cash, and lots of it. FSAE might not be real racing (which needs mega-cash), but cash can still fix a lot of things...)

Cockpit templates and Percy. But be warned, if you let another team borrow yours and word gets out, everybody knows where to go.

Not only your transponder, but the charger as well (if it's the rechargeable version).

Walkie talkies! Vital when going through tech and when competing out in the dynamic events.

ALL your required tech papers! This includes printouts of any email correspondance with the rules committee, a copy of your approved SES with a screenshot showing it was approved, and any additional documentation that was needed to prove equivalency. (This can be prepared at comp prior to tech but I feel it still applies here.)

Some sort of cart or dolly to haul around your rain tires, portable toolbox, driver equipment, etc., especially for initial tech "Take-a-number". You only don't wanna be the guy having to carry that 25 pound toolbox all the way over to the dynamic area.

In addition to everything already mentioned
-Pop rivets
-sheet aluminum
-extra chain guard material
-spare engine
-hammer
-spare parts for the track cart
-muffler packing

Really we just bring the whole shop. If you bring everything murphy's law guarantees you won't need most of it, but forget a spare part and it will be the one you need.

Nice list. To add to it:

-sun shade/rain cover
-foldable chairs
-first aid kit
-more shop towels
-extra muffler packing (noise)
-assorted bolts/nuts and washers
-electrical repair stuff (crimper, extra wire, etc)
-a plan/shedule for the events (!!!!!!)
-your A-game
-extension cord
-tire covers
-generator (Lincoln)

There's plenty more for sure, and I definitely second what the others said. It's tough not to bring too much stuff, but there's always that one thing you forgot!

20' stick of 1"x.095 wall tubing. Can work for any tube on the car, and if you need it you're likely no longer worrying about weight.

Running shoes. You might need them for tech and/or the dynamic events

Both aluminum and steel rivets. Dudes from OSU can attest to this one.

Since I don't see them listed yet:

-Impact Attenuator Test Piece
-Monocoque test samples

...I wonder how many people I just caused a brief moment of panic as they forget where they put those 6 months ago...

Don't forget the things needed for the static events.

- A clock, with alarm would be good.
- A Table
- Water for people
- A guy to do running around
- Ream of paper
- Hose, for oil, cooling and covering sharp edges
- Tarps

We had a rule that when packing if someone said "should we take ...", that thing must be taken.

10x more water than you think you could possibly need!

It's said that "Hindsight is 20/20", so for those of you who just returned from FSAE Michigan:
+ What did you need that you didn't think of beforehand?
+ What did you forget to take with you?

We might as well close the loop on this thread. Design judges love validation http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nomex socks. Always nomex socks. Buy enough to sell to other teams at comp.
