A couple weekends ago, our team had the privledge of welcoming Steve Fox and his friend David Redszus to our shop. I had e-mailed Steve about a few drivetrain questions and he offered to come out, meet the team, and answer several questions for us. Be advised that Steve did not come out and tell us what we were doing wrong and tell us the correct way of fixing it. As a design judge, he is obligated to remain completely unbiased towards any team and I assure you he did not jeopardize his judging integrity in any way. What he did do, however, was cover many topics with us about the design competition. The entire session was much like that following design judging at competition. As I stated before, he did not tell us how to fix our errors, but he did ask us several questions about our design which helped us reconsider what we were doing. All in all, the visit was amazingly informative and was a good experience for every member on the team. If anybody else has the chance to do this, I strongly advise you do not pass it up.
