Hello all,
I will be making the diff housing this year for my team and we will be using the Torsen type 1 diff in an aluminum housing. Has anyone sat down and done FEA on the housing to minimize the weight of the housing when designing it? Also what calculations are commonly utilized to find the maximum torques in the unit and where they are applied as well.
Basically I am looking for some information from someone who actually SAT DOWN and designed the housing to meet the needs of a FSAE car and not a tank. I am not looking to overdesign the unit like most teams do and am looking to speak and/or work with that special individual who has or wants to design the diff housing correctly. Once again I am looking for obtaining correct formulas to generate numbers...not guesses.
Thanks!!
