I would not recommend buying from them. They are awful, have lied to us multiple times about when they are shipping our order, then agreed to ship with 2nd day air and actually shipped it by ground when we finally got the tracking number. They just make excuses and try to get you off the phone as fast as possible. Do not give them any of your money or time.

I have had the exact opposite experience. They have been informative and cheap.
Sometimes shipping problems occur. You probably shouldn't have waited last minute to get your sprocket.

+1.
We've been buying from them for years!
If you're looking for big sprockets, get them from Rebel Gears direct. Sprocket Specialists gets all of their big sprockets from them. I have ordered twice. Both times, the gear was cut the next day and in UPS that day or the following. Note that they only do anodizing when they have enough for a batch, so there might be a wait for that.

I agree with CB23; give Rebel Gears a call. We purchased this years sprocket from them and had an excellent experience. Our sprocket had a custom bolt pattern and it still shipped the day after PO placement.
To their credit, we have purchased from Sprocket Specialists in the past and been happy with their products. We made the switch to Rebel Gears his year after having difficulty getting in contact. From the SS horror stories I have read online that might not have been a bad thing?

I switched a couple years ago to Rebel Gears.
SS had run outs that out of this world.
Rebel machines our TRE pattern into the sprockets...they don't punch press...
Sandy is the lady you want to talk to, absolutely
the nicest lady to deal with . Top notch company...

We selected our gearing early on in the process and honestly they came in rather quickly(less than a week IIRC).
They aren't exactly Amazon.com...Shipping is not a reason I would bash a company to be honest.

We work with PBI Sprockets out here in Oregon. They're great to work with and have wonderful turnaround times! http : / / pbisprockets . com /

We've mostly used Sprocket Specialists over the last several years, and we have also had a couple sprockets come in with runout that was totally unacceptable. On one of them you could just see it without even opening the package. Also had at least one time they sent the wrong bolt pattern. But in both cases they sent us proper ones and fixed the problem. I've never worked with them directly so I can't say anything about their customer service.
Although I can say if you wait until the last minute to buy a custom sprocket, don't be surprised if you have problems!

I beg to differ.
Any custom part with less than 8 weeks lead time is a mistake, unless you have a solid backup plan.

Thankfully our waterjetted backup sprocket worked great.
I'd like to update this for fairness -
Sprocket specialists saw our complaint and saturday-shipped us a second sprocket so that we would have it for our testing. They gave a good effort to fix their service with us, and we did get their fine quality sprocket in the end.
I wasn't trying to blame SS for us not having a real sprocket, I was pissed because they quoted us a ship date and never told us that they were going to miss that date, even after they had become late. The issue has passed now and did not delay our team at all in the end. I hope SS has a better ability to give their customers updates on orders when they get their new website completed. I would probably order from them again if I had more lead time.
