View Full Version : Analysis
hey hello guys,
I am performing force analysis on knuckle. And I have one doubt.
While going through the turn driver will be applying breaks first and then will be accelerating. The situation might come where driver will be applying breaks and accelerating pedal at the same time.Is this a critical situation??
To analyze this situation should we just add forces in break and accn scenario when considered separately???

This doesn't make sense to me. If your driver is already applying breaks to the knuckle, why do you need to do an FEA? I thought you were supposed to prevent the breaking?

Come on Adam, he obviously isn't a native.
@A: What Adam is trying to tell you is that there is a difference between the driver braking aka decelerating the car and the driver breaking aka damaging the knuckle.
One of the most popular quaotes in FSAE/FS is probably a team tweeting: "We passed the break test!"
On the other hand: For some teams the brake test becomes a break test.
im reall very sorry for mistake .what i meant was brakes....extremely sorry guys

In response to your question: Is there really going to be a time when the driver will be on both the brakes and the accelerator at the same time? Why? If there is a case where this is true, the forces will be acting in opposite directions. Where are the forces going to be reacted? Is this load case going to be more or less extreme than heavy braking (at the knuckle)? All in all, FBD that shit.

A, I (sort of) get what you're trying to say.
For the front, even if the driver is braking and applying throttle, the force to the knuckle will only be limited by the maximum braking torque (chosen by your design) or the tire traction.
For the rear, hypothetically speaking, if you have some over-engineered-super-strong brake system and a really powerful power/drive train, the moment about the caliper mount due to driving torque will cause extra stress in the rotor of course as well as the knuckle.
