Dr. Woods said it will be July 16-17. For those that have not been to the Texas AutoX we will be driving in our parking lot on Saturday with a Enduro style track in the morning and a more open track in the afternoon. On Sunday we will join with the SCCA Autocross on a concrete parking lot. Past visiting teams include: Texas A&M, UT, UTSA, Oklahoma, Kansas, Ohio, Cincinnati, New Mexico

UT should be there again this year. Hopefully with three relatively competitive cars... competitive drivers are another story. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
If you can stand the blazing Texas heat, then it's a lot of fun.

Texas Autocross Weekend 2005
15-17 July 2005

We are planning to have our fourth annual "Texas Autocross Weekend" this summer during the weekend of 15 - 17 July 2004. The original intent was to get the local teams from Texas and Oklahoma together, but it seems to have grown to a much wider boundary including Kansas, Ohio, New Mexico, and others. The intent is to get teams and cars together for an all-day practice session on Saturday on the UTA campus and then attend a local SCCA autocross on Sunday.

Here is the schedule:

Friday afternoon: - Open house and open shop at UTA. Tour of our facility and see twenty years of FSAE car evolution, car repair, tire changing, shop talk, etc.

Friday evening: - Social at my house. Magazines, photos, FSAE videos, games and puzzles.

Saturday: - We will setup some racetracks on our large asphalt parking lot. We will setup the 1998 FSAE endurance course in the morning, and a more open SCCA course in the afternoon. We will have SCCA timing and will record every run for your records. There will be plenty of runs for everybody and Texas BBQ for lunch.

Saturday evening: - Eat together at a cafeteria. Early to bed.

Sunday: - Attend the Texas Region's SCCA regional autocross named the "Carroll Smith Memorial" in honor of this event. It is located about 30 minutes from campus and has a relatively small concrete parking lot. They will allow 3 or possibly 4 drivers per car instead of the normal limit of 2. This might be the largest gathering of A-mod in SCCA's history.

Accommodations: - There is a motel (Parkway Inn) directly across the street from our UTA track. They have reasonable rates. We can park trailers on our parking lot (track) overnight.

Our shop will be available Saturday for repairs or do-it-yourself tire changes.

We will need to know if you plan to attend. Please contact me directly for further communications and details.

We are three weeks away from the Texas Autocross Weekend. I have heard verbal indications from Texas A&M, U. Texas Austin, U. New Mexico, U. Kansas, Oklahoma U, Alabama, Oklahoma State U., and Texas Tech. I have not heard from the Ohio schools. We will have several visitors from schools that will not have a car there.

I need to have names of all of the team members and visitors so we can make name badges for everybody. I need the names of the drivers for the SCCA Autocross on Sunday so I can pre-register you. I need to know the car numbers of the cars you will be bringing so we can coordinate race numbers on Sunday. I need to know how many people will be attending the social at my house on Friday night so I can have some snacks for you. I need to know how many t-shirts you want to buy so I can have them printed.

Please contact me directly by e-mail so I can do all of the planning and coordination necessary for a smooth event.

The event motel is Parkway Inn International (toll free 866 432 7275, and local 817 860 2323). Rooms are ($42 for 2, $48 for 4). You need to make reservations soon. Please register in the name of the university so we can find you.

As a bit of incentive to register early, we are going to allow the top driver from each school to drive one of the current UTA cars. If you bring two cars... two drivers.

This will be a very interesting event. Shop talk, sharing, and great racing. Please let me know if you are planning to attend and give me all of the details.

See http://maepro.uta.edu/fsae/news/TXAX2004.html for a report from last year's event.

Wow! Now I'm really looking forward to it.
BTW, Dr. Matthews has some video of some of the early FSAE events, when they were still held in Austin. I'll try to bring them to the Friday night party. They are both funny and scary at the same time. There is one driver wearing only a helmet and shorts. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

The Texas Autocross Weekend is this coming weekend. There are some updates on our website http://fsae.uta.edu/.

We have 9 schools represented, 20 cars, and over 100 attendees. There are 40 drivers entered in the SCCA regional autocross on Sunday.
