Good Luck to all the teams entering.

I have to put money on Hester (Rmit) or Al (Monash) winning the autocross. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

With Monash finally getting some skinny little tires to go with thier huge wings I think they are the favorite. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Monash are having huge problems getting their car out of customs. They might now get their car out tomorrow (Fri), but for a while there they were saying that the earliest they could get it was Monday. Poor blokes. We all really hope that this sorts itself out.

Cheers all,

Geoff

Thats right geoff.

Al and Jarrod camped out at customs and basically did their job for them, after we had hassles due to someone elses dangerous goods which happened to also be in our crate. They had to organise (and pay for) a driver with a hazardous good license and truck to move the whole container 20km so that it could be safely(!) opened and our crate removed.

They got back to Birm at about 3:30am. Its 6:30 am now and we are just leaving for comp after detailling a few parts, changing tyres, putting the car back together, and a CG height test.

Monash are go for Formula Student.

Catch you at the track,

RMIT HAVE WON AUTOCROSS

BryanH

Got a few sms at 2.45am! I think they said RMIT won dynamic events by .1sec but cannot confirm this. In 1/2 sleep stupor deleted 1 message so could not reread it after morning coffee
quite a few quick/interesting cars
Rotor decided to trade rubbered up track for safety and ran 3rd car out, doing a safe run then missing 2nd gear on his 2nd run. The enduro will give better indication of comparative lap times. RMIT have choice of start time after winning sprint so tactics will again play a part as they always should in motor racing

News from Rotor;
Toronto unofficial winner of autocross, RMIT second place but only because Big Bird was held at the gate 40sec! after driver change for some inexplicable reason.

I dont think this will effect overall result.

RMIT won fuel economy easily (2.1 litres) The other 2 single cyl cars crashed out

Rotors fastest lap time was 52, next best was high 53. Big Bird was 1.8 sec slower than rotor, a fair way shorter than 15 minutes!!!

The design score will decide overall 1st place
and this has not been officially released yet.

Stralsund,s last year car is listed as 2nd in Autocross but does not score points. Rotor nearly lapped it in his stint.

Half of the Firenze Team is come back in ITALY.

Our compliments to RMIT for the great results at FS04.

For the first time a single cylinder car won a FSAE competition.

For the first time the Class 1 and the Class 1-200 were divided, and the overall results of the 200 cars is still unknown. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Congrats to RMIT on the very convincing win...are there any photos anywhere? The RMIT FSAE website I can find through Google seems to be screwed up.

Good to see my hometown folk in Toronto placing a strong second too...goes to show it's very difficult to repeat as champions in any of the FSAE events these days...the competition just keeps on getting better every year.

Looking back on the results, RMIT really dominated the event, impressive work guys. At FSAE-A we finished 4th only 55 points behind 1st, and at FSAE 2nd through 4th were seperated by only 10 points, to see such a points spread is suprising (not discounting Cornells comfortable margin this year).

Only 12 cars of 54 scoring endurance points, what a shame.

And thanks to the person who sent pics directly. Much obliged - looks like a very nice car.

And agreed with Charlie, impressed with the consistently high results across all static and dynamic events. Any team that gets 900+ points in FSAE/FStudent/FSAE-A takes care of everything simultaneously, which is no small feat.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, we really appreciate it. I have to say that the most rewarding part of this comp is the respect and the good humour between competitors, both in person and on these forums. We have all had a great time attending the FStudent comp, made a lot of new friends, and can't wait to come back next year. Hopefully with a reserved position now, we might be able to make it to FSAE US next year too. Fingers crossed....

I must say that recently I've found myself overwhelmed with the standard of engineering talent found at a comp like this. Looking at cars like the Brunel car, Lulea, Delft, Toronto, Stralsund, Monash, Queensland, etc, it is obvious there are a lot of very smart people out there. I can't help thinking what we could achieve if we all put our heads together and started designing an F1 car, an F3 car, whatever. Food for thought.....

Most of our crew are returning to Melbourne this weekend. Once we are back we will get our butts into gear and update the website with photos, stories, tech stuff, whatever. Our apologies for being a little slack on this front, the attention was a little unexpected. Thanks for your patience.

All the best,
