How many hours have teams with 428 chains put on their cars, and did they last? We try for ~70 hours, and it would be nice to know if switching to a 428 would require many replacements. Please specify tire size.

We ran 428 chain on our car last year before I was on the team. We had 20 inch tires. I don't think they ever came close to reaching 70 hours though.

The chain seemed to stretch a bit but never broke. The drive sprocket was getting worn out near the top of the teeth.

The '04 guys weren't able to get a front 428 sprocket for our 2000 ZX-6R motor so they had a 520 sprocket turned down on a lathe and bolted a 428 sprocket to the hub.

This year we decided to switch back to 520 chain.

We now have 9 hours of testing, but we decided to change the DID heavy duty chain because it was loose enough to contact our engine mount. We could have just tightened the chain with the chain adjuster, but we decided to install a new RK MXZ chain. The master link had been removed and installed on the DID at least 15 times, so it would have been risky to keep using it.

In addition, the 65 tooth aluminum rear sprocket is hardly showing signs of any wear. Same with the 14T front sprocket.
