hey guys i was hoping you could give some estimates on the time it took you to put the car together after you have bought all the pieces and materials, we're making a works schedule and i wanted to see if it was reasonable.

Use the rule of pi.

It will take you precisely 3.14 times as long as you think it should.

If I were you I would be in the shop every day until competition. Seriously. We started around christmas. It took us about 2-3 weeks to build the frame, then we spent all of february machining parts and ordering parts, and we should have everything partly finished next week. So about 2.5 months of everyday work.

Hey Mike coudos to you and your team. If 6 or 7 people can put together a car in 2 1/2 months you guys have a system that is realy working. I assume that 95% of the design is done before hand but I still think that that is pretty impressive. Its not that its really hard to do, but those 6 or 7 people have to be really commited which is what I find so cool... http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Sometimes, I honestly think I consider aborting my lease for my house and finding a sublet. It would be so much cheaper, seeing as I only sleep at home for a mere 3 hours a day, then it's back to school. Eat, sleep, study FSAE...
There's a nice comfy couch in the office... http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

So, plan on living and breathing the beast until competition, especially if you have a small team. The trick is just getting a lot of people motivated fast and having them see the end result before it's to that point. Always an everyday challenge for many teams!
