View Full Version : Coils for 97 GSXR 600, greater than 2ohm.

Just wondering if there are other teams using the 97 GSXR600 and what coils they are going with?

We are thinking about going with performance Dyna coils, but there will be some fabrication required to adapt the 14mm wires to the 10mm plugs.

Coil on plug would be the ideal situation but so far we haven't found anything that is compatible or recommended.

Are you using the PE-ltd ECU? Check ebay for late model GSXR coils ('00 and newer i believe), they are coil on plug and work with that ecu. We are using coils from a triumph daytona, which are almost identical.

Those look like they would work fine.

Jared - just make sure to confirm the resistance before hooking up.

Our worry was that newer coils may not fit correctly into the engine. (Wouldn't have sufficient length)

Also, checking on Ebay, most people could not give me the resistances. Hopefully I'll find something soon.

how deep are the plug wells in your head? i will measure the length of our coils tomorrow and post the length. the GSXR coil-ons fit our engine, which is a 2001 R6.

Ignition coil measurements:

total length: 4-5/8"
length from rubber seal bootom: 3-1/4"
max shaft dia: 13/16"
Shaft seal dia (largest rubber part at top) : approx. 1"

The depth of our plug well is about 4.3" and the smallest diameter is about .75", both the GSXR coils i linked to and the datona coils (which were .25" shorter fit in ours). Hope that helps. There is usually 6-7 sets on ebay of the GSXRs and for about 35 shipped it isnt a great risk. hope that helped.
