Congratulations to all you Aussies out there on your Olympic swim team's performance up to this point. The Australian women's 4x100 freestyle relay upset the favored Americans, winning by several hundredths of a second. Our Jenny Thompson, the greatest relay swimmer of all time, just couldn't hang on. The Aussie men took second to America's third in the same event.
Well done.
Don't worry. Auburn will bring it home for the USA at Detroit '05. Come and get us. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Slight nitpick; I think the Dutch men took second in the 4x100 freestyle.

Well, if you extrapolate from our placings in 2003 and 2004, we'll place -10th in 2005... http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

My apologies, Igor. I was mis-informed. You're absolutely right, the Netherlands did take second in the men's 4x100. The famed Pieter van den Hogenband a.k.a "The Flying Dutchman" stole the silver from the U.S. in the last ten meters. It was really some race. Congrats.
Charlie, you may hold the record for post count but let's count up shop hours. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I watched a womens pushbike race instead of F-1
last night. They had their clothes on so that gives you a hint as to how annoying Shui has become. But it was all good as it turned into a fascinating race AND AN AUSSIE WON GOLD!
"best average finish"? 2nd place is first loser.

It took me a minute to confirm my suspicion that pushbike meant bicycle... I also had this image in my mind of grown people pushing those kid's bikes without pedals as quickly as possible down a track.

That would be awesome! At one of our campus events called Explore UT we attempted a slolom course on tricycles... very amusing.

Basketball...
The USA's "Dream Team" had another narrow escape in the basketball when they came from behind in the fourth quarter to beat Australia 89-79.
The Americans were beaten by Puerto Rico in their opening game, and only just defeated Greece in their second outing.

I watched the cycling as well. Much more excitment than F1 (again). Great performance by Carrigan (spelling?) to get gold . I have to admit I was out of my seat cheering on the British favourite who just missed the medals. I honestly can't remember when an F1 race had that effect.
The Olympics has a purity of sporting endevour (the odd drug issue notwithstanding) that F1 should kill for. Somehow I don't think Bernie cares anymore.
