Hi,

I just acquired an old glyde spring damper unit from x-fusion shocks with a 25 mm travel on the damper- the coil that came with it has S750*38 printed on it...hence my question is, What is the spring rate on such a spring and what do these figures explain about the spring?? Is it 750 N to compress it 1.5" and then spring rate being 500N/inch or is it 750 N/inch and 38mm coil diameter....please help!!!??

Best thing to do regardless is to "dyno" the springs. Put em on a tensile test machine. Compress em. See where they stack up. I've seen actual spring rates deviate from stamped ones by 10-15%.

Will a normal tensile testing unit suffice? u mentioned a 'dyno'. we have a unit which resembles a dyno which some graduates are using for torque testing etc. is this of any use to me..?

thanks by the way for getting back to me so quickly.

measure load and displacement to get the rate
