Hey,
I'm having some problems with the WR450 alternator, not giving me enough power... http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif Is there anyone who also had/has this problem and how did you solve it.
Did you save power, did you put in a very large battery or did you use a different alternator??
If no aftermarket stator upgrade kit is available, you could always build a switch mode regulator. Those are much more efficient than the standard linear regulator.
You will need a good electronics guy though, as designing high power switch mode converters is not trivial stuff.

Well, we got through a couple of comps with a big battery! Bit risky though.
Where are you located Sebastiaan? We get our coils rewound here in Oz - couple of places around that do it.
cheers,

I'm from the Delft team from Holland. I thought of rewinding too, but didn't have a look into it yet.
How many amps did you get after the rewinding?

Do you have links to rewinding companies near Southwest Virginia? I am having the exact same problem with my WR450 stator assembly!

A Ricky Stator (www.rickystator.com) will get you a drop-in 100 watts. That should be enough to run your ECU, FI and cooling fan.

We have a 150W stator from Electrosport, yet we still are losing power. No one cam find where the power is going.

We have a 150W stator from Electrosport, yet we still seem to be losing power at all times.

I'd venture you have a consumption problem, not an output problem. You are going to have a very hard time fitting enough wire onto the stator to make more than 150 watts.
One of the (many) challenges of running a 450 dirt single is you have to be very careful with your power budget. You can't run all the things you can off a 600 street bike engine.
