I have been looking far and wide and I cant seem to find a welding/fixturing table that has threaded holes in it for accurate fixturing. Anyone know where I can get one. My only finds right now are bluco and weldsale.

Rob,
Have you thought about making your own??

You could get a piece of 3/4" Al plate and machine threaded holes in it that way. Also, I recommend some hardened pins/dowels for accurate locating of holes. Otherwise, you will see slop in the threads of the bolts if you only use them. Just depends on your requirements, etc for your tolerances.

Rob,

One thing you might want to consider is an Optics table from a manufacturer like Newport. They usually have 1/4-20 taped holes on 1" to 2" centers. New they are prohibitively expensive, but I have found them cheap from labs that are going out of buisness. Some of them even have self-leveling hydralic legs. The best place to go is the physics department and find out if there is an optics prof retiring soon. The department might give you the table free if you move it for them. I have moved some that weigh in excess of 2000 lbs., if they aren't using it they usually jump at the chance to get rid of it.

I wanted one made out of steel for durability. I was planning on using shoulder bolts. From my experience in maintaining stripper dies(close tolerances), I cant imagine that they would be beyond .0001" out. because of how tight they fit. I could be wrong though. Any experience on this?

Rear,

I was looking into that too. I am trying to find one that is all steel, Those honeycomb ones are not quite what I am looking for. Got any good surplus places you know of?

No real experience here. However, I agree with you on the tightness of that tolerance, should be fine. Good luck!

Optical tables are great! We got at 48" x 72" one that someone at our school was throwing out. Ask around at your university.

Rob,

There are two for sale on ebay right now (7/5/05) but the frieght may kill you. Here in Cleveland we have an excellent surplus warehouse:

they don't have anything right now, but their stock is constantly rotating. A froogle search may also net you some results.
