I guess depending on condition and model you can find it on ebay anywhere between 900 and 1500 $. That's my take on it.

Has anyone bought from southshoreastro on ebay? He's selling kits all the time, and they are pretty cheap, but I'm dubious to buy an engine kit from a guy when he asks typically, $200-$300 less than other.

hmmmm... I wonder if his kits are made with salvageable used parts???

that's pretty cheap, he might be honest at it but it's a risk you shouldn't undertake, specially when you don't have a lot of experience with engines.

That's what I am saying. I can't afford to get an engine that doesn't runn well to begin with, as I don't have a ton of experience to go on with motorcycle engines. I'd rather have one that starts out running great and then breaks on me http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If reliability is a concern (As it is for us) and any of you are looking for a reasonable deal, Willie's Cycles, in Alabama, sells a full kit, guaranteed to work, for $1400. If we can't find anything through other venues I'm going to tempt him with $1200 cash.

When you say full kit, does that include the ECU? Because 1400$ is one heck of a deal for all that. Otherwise I think ECU's range anywhere between 800 and 1000 $.
For the universities that make their own ECU's, how much (excluding brain power) do they cost to you?

We were looking at getting an engine from him. We asked him for a serial number prior to bidding. And I also requested a picture of the serial number on the car if possible. He avoided my question by saying the engine was already in the box. Additionally, he did not respond to my teammate until after the bidding ended saying the engine was already sold and it didn't matter.

Our team is very cautious of scams. We unfortunately bought a stolen motor this year off of ebay with serials scratched off. The guy wouldn't take the motor back so we got the law involved. We used our student legal service through the university. (For once we got something that we paid for at college...)

Anyways, the sellers response was , "I remove the serial numbers off of all my motors so my customers can put their own ones on....."
