Is there a preferred 2 way radio set for fsae? I can't find helmets with built in headset, so I am trying to find a small headset that can go with any walkie talkie I guess.

Motorola Talkabout radios proved to be pretty good in the past. If radio comes with over 38 sub-channels, odds of being disrupted are smaller. With this said, are you sure you want to distract the driver while (s)he is out on the track?

I wasn't able to find it in the short time I looked, but are radios even allowed? I just wonder how much communication the event organizers want between the driver out in the car and the one waiting to get into the car. At that point you could have live video feed to any location, visually preparing your 2nd driver. I suppose that I am giving away too much as the event organizers probably do not scan for video signals. That would be cool, though. Make the excuse that you are just taking video record, but the co-driver has the Mission Impossible glasses and is watching while he waits. You could also have telemetry data show so he knows what gear is being used/rpms/etc. Cool, maybe some team will try it.

i was thinking for testing getting realtime driver feedback.. not for the actual event.

Teams are already doing it. Wasn't able to post the pics (couldn't figure out how to) but Lulea had an on-board camera with wireless transmission to god knows where (though its quite understood) on their 2005 car at Brunty.

The only mention I can remember of video and radio systems is in the cost report section of the rules. It just states that if the system is "stand alone" it need not be included in the cost report. To me, that seems that they are most certainly allowed.
