CBR 600 f4i tachometer

Hey were trying to hook up an engine to a recently built dyno and can't seem to get the tach on the computer to register. They have an analog tach so Im guessing I can just hook it strait to the output wire that goes to the instrument pannel.. Not sure on the pulse rate either.. HELP
