Telemetry Radios

Hello Guys.

I want to know what kind of radios do you use for the trasmision of the car's data. We have using a pair of FM transceiver from OKWelectronics but it really sucks. Now we're evaluating a modules from www.aerocomm.com (http://www.aerocomm.com) that costs $200 for the developer's kit. I want to know if some of you have ever used those radios and the performance that you have obtained.

Never used those but we use a kit from Freewave. www.freewave.com (http://www.freewave.com)

The units are pricey, but act just like a wireless serial port so they're really easy to wire up and give great data transfer.

Yea, we used the aerocomm units, the AC-4490-1000-M the 900MHz 1000mW radio.

We didnt bother with the developers kit, they are pretty easy to integrate. A few basic preliminary settings and they go sweet. Havent had range problems with the radios in open terrain, such as test tracks, but a few buildings in the way and its all over.

The 1000mW units are 3.3V only, posing a significant power supply issue. Our PSU was dissipating about 14W with continuous running. Also a freind of mine used the 200mW units with a switchmode, and had all manner of problems, until he changed it for a linier.

Also check that the frequency band fits your legal frequencies. We bought the ones with the australian band (we are in New Zealand) and they sent us the american band units, as they had just halted production of the aussie ones.

We're using the Aerocomm AC-4490 units to develop a system right now. So far everything seems to be going well. They're really easy to set up and get going. We got the development kit, but I don't think it was really necessary. They have both serial and USB adapters which is nice too.
