Hey guys,
Can anyone tell me the adverse effects of bypassing the oil cooler in the coolant circuit?

Your oil will be hotter, and you'll suffer any ill effects from that (I must admit I'm not much of a powertrain guy, I only do the cooling).

Your coolant will be cooler. That lowers the performance of your radiator.

Basically, you run the risk of essentially 'trapping' heat in your motor that would otherwise be rejected. The only way to get rid of that heat (without cooling the oil) is to let the motor come to a thermal equilibrium that is at a higher overall temperature.

Of course, that's largely theoretical, and the effects may be mild to nil, or they may be severe. About the only way for us to tell the effects would be to test.

I should ask you why you want to remove it from the loop? We use an F4i, and it's not difficult at all to keep in the loop. And like I said, it helps the motor reject heat.

Packaging, maybe?
