I am about to put a front clip on my car and have a question about the steering boxes on all the clips i see except for one. The Laughlin (sp) front clip has their steering box mounted flat. When i say flat i mean there is no "nose dive" in the box it's self. They mounted their box so the pitman/idler arm is level front to back so as you steer the centerlink/draglink does not not drop. I know the amount of drop is nearly nothing but i was curious as to why it has that angle in it at all and would it help to mount it level? In my mind i feel it would but it probably does not make a difference.

Brian,
With all due respect, this forum is called 'FSAE.com' and caters to people interested in Formula SAE and Formula Student issues. It is not really an appropriate place to post technical requests about Stock Car dynamic issues.
It is unlikely you will get the advice you seek here, surely there is a more appropriate forum out there?
Cheers
Pat

Its the nose you should pay attention to, not the pitman. You would want to have a straight as possible shot up the steering shaft without hitting stuff (like frame, UCA mounts, exhaust, wires, etc. There are some safety implications in this, too (collision) and steering wheel axial force profile.

Pat,
Im not trying to argue, just trying to understand. As i look through the posts in this forum i see many posts that have far less to do with anything technical let alone SAE related than the questions i am asking. I realize i do not have an engineering degree in anything and am far less educated than anyone here but i cant find any other forum out there that is not more interested in why Dale Jr is not winning races, or why Good Year is the only tire supplier of NASCAR ( Or any other useless thing ). If my questions do not fit the forum i will leave and not post but i cant help but notice many other posts that have far less to do with anything related to this forum, and so far the people that have helped me a ton. Im just trying to find some help. I would pay someone at this point just to learn.

There is always the 'off-topic' section. If you post there--nobody will mind probably....

In NASCAR, what's level at inspection height is not level at mid-corner attitude (lots of travel, lots of vertical loading).
