I was just reading through previous posts.

I noticed comments from Frank Ruska, and Ben from Birmingham, about the track surface at Bruntingthorpe.

I'm wondering, is the competition held on the same specific piece of ground each year?

I think Frank Ruska mentioned that the surface is actually 3 different surfaces..

Would someone with a few years experience at Bruntingthorpe mind giving us a bit more of a description about the track surface and the expectant weather conditions.

I'm also wondering where do most people stay during the event.?

Lutterworth? Market Harbour? Leicester?

or one of the (it seems many) bed and breakfasts in the smaller villages nearby? Ashby Magna? Shearsbury? Gilmorton? Amesby?

Thx in advance

Hi Frank, the autocross ('Sprint') and enduro at Bruntingthorpe is held essentially on a go kart track. There are FIA curbs, well known for ripping the wheels right off cars, so to keep the cars away from them and to tighten up the course, they use witches hats.
To get a longer lap and to organise the in and out grid, they incorporate some of the airport 'hard stand' beside the track. This is a very different surface to the kart track. It is old, lumpy, slippery and has old fuel spills. It is also at a differet level. They try to avoid the worst of the spots, but considering the amount of surface available at Bruntingthorpe, they could do better.
In 2002 they ran the acceleration event beside the high speed test track which was being used at the time. This was very dangerous, especially as it was raining, so I hope they don't do that any more.
Leicester is the nearest big city and where I usually stay, its about half an hour away. But be aware, accommodation (and everything else in the UK is expensive, especially when you think in Aussie dollars). Possibly BnB is the best bet.
If you come across any good accom deals, let me know as I haven't booked anything yet.

Hi Frank, there is a listing on the Fstudent website about camping grounds at Donington that might be worth looking at, if you want to rough it in the cold English countryside. Just another option.

HI Frank,

check out www.student-racing.de (http://www.student-racing.de) than events-> race Formula Student 2002/2003 Dynamic days and you will find hunderts of Pictures. There you can see a lot of pictures from the track, and als the different surfaces. DonĀ“t forget the rain tires!

The go cart track, is an sphalt track, but with some bumps inside. a good working damping should help you. If you check the 2002 pictures you can see some water on the track, there are the bumps.

the go cart track is very nice to drive, no so tide like the Aussie track in 2002.

If you have any further questions to the track and the comp you can contact me offpage: frank.roeske_no_spam@web.de

Hope to see ayou all in Uk

Frank
