why spend loads of cash on mahogany when you can do just as well with balsa?

Yea, just do balsa and wrap it in carbon fiber. Super strong and super light, basically F1 uprights!!!

No, carbon fiber will be expensive, just wrap it with cloth. And do remember to use anti-termite spray.

I heard another team was making them out of tissue paper! Ultimately they ran out of it when the judges were behind their ass! :\

This is ridiculous...
Make them from your own idiocy.. is bulletproof and so light, that it floats everywhere.
Obviously, this is a troll..

While you're at trying to make the world a greener place, why don't you replace your engine with oxen and substituting Gasoline with fodder.

Because a pair of oxen breathing through a 20mm restrictor would not be able to produce very much power for very long.

Nothing a bit of plenum size tuning wont fix

This is clearly a troll.
However I will add: we had a bicycle design project in a cad design subject, part of this was the delivery of a seminar outlining the design.
Shit you not, one particular student had decided to go with wood as his frame material (while everyone else was going CRFP, Ally or 4130) and had based this off an engineering text he found in the library from the early 1900's.
Possibly the greatest seminar ever.

Renovo makes nice bikes and they are wood.
A 26" Mountain frame too...

I'd suggest using bamboo it can be grown sustainably. Make sure to use baby seal leather for your seat cover as well.

Does anyone know if it ever got finished?
Even they weren't game to go with the old redgum or mahogany uprights
Id suggest maybe trying something a little more metalic rather than trying to "touch wood" and see how it goes.
