im not asking for anyone to do my homework 4 me, i'm asking for help. i've been doing my research 4 days but can't find anything solid on the internet.. im not asking to be told exactly how to make the diff on here.. even if theres anything else on the net or sumwhere else that might help, doesnt have 2 b the torsen diff, even info on other similar diffs will give me an idea...

None of these parts are that hard to manufacture. Search the internet for basic turning, milling and gear/spline cutting processes. Find some pretty pictures, make a diagram, your assignment is done.

Yes i agree this forum is becoming lame. To be a successful engineer it is neccessary that you learn to track down information yourself. I could tell you how make all these parts but unless you have sufficent knowledge yourself how can you judge if im right??

...and when all else fails there is always youtube. Quite a few vids on people showing off their machining skills and guru tools...

Not related to your little diff but i think that this one is pretty cool.

im sure its my lack of knowledge but i didnt know engine blocks could be machined, just thought they were cast or forged!

Why are you doing your paper on the torsen if you dont know how to make one?

this may be stupid idea....try catching hold of some OEM companies retired guy and approach him with some make up story and i think he should help....

but again just an idea

torsen = heavy = less go fast
cam and pawl = light = more go fast

just my opinion

i know its silly to ask this...but i have to...wat is the differential between the UNIVERSITY SPECIAL and a normal torsen t1,t2,t3 differentials?

Torsen americas website has more than you will ever need. The University special is a type 1 design, but has no ring gear.

Very curious to know how the car handles on an autocross course? I thought the transition from open to locked functioning would be very hard to deal with.

We've used the Honda cam-and-pawl since at least '06 and I've driven several of the cars with it. Depending on the shimming/tightness of the diff, the ratcheting action isn't exactly smooth. But you learn to anticipate it and I would not say that it is hard to deal with. It's definitely a compromise of performance for weight and cost. It's worth testing a spool back-to-back to determine if the cam-and-pawl offers any real performance benefits other than being able to tell design judges that you put some work into speccing a diff.
