Does anyone have the contact information or pricing for the 13" single lug BBS or OZ wheels that some teams used at Romeo this year? I know the Penn state boys were using the OZ, and I saw a few cars with the BBS.

I'm trying to get some information about offsets, but I don't want to waste my time making phone calls to the wrong people, or trying to buy wheels we can't afford. If anyone has already gone down this road and would be able to provide some $/names/numbers, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Marc

Just drop an email to BBS-USA. Theyre cool.

From what I hear.. 6" BBS wheels are $250. And they are HOTNESS.

I've got a question. Putting packaging concerns aside, how do you go about choosing the width of your wheel? We're currently shopping for 13x7s, but I hate to admit that seven inches is just a number someone shit out and thought smelled good.

I would imagine taking into account the torque of the engine, co-efficient of friction of the tires, the weight of the car, and the width of the contact patch would be a start, but that only covers acceleration. What kind of factors and/or equations should be considered for handeling purposes on top of that? Suggestions?

If you bought into the tire consortium (hope I spelled that correctly), that data is a great resource.

We are also hoping to experiment with CarSim to work out some kinks, but generally any simulation tool like that would get you started along the right path.

How much do these BBS/OZs weigh? 6" or 7"

Sam, assuming your talking about wheels and not tires (??) the wider the wheel give the same tire the higher the cornering stiffness will be.

As for tire width, there are a lot of things to look at, two of which would be tire data and operating temperature. If you can't get tire data, I would like at what other teams are running, especially the teams that do have tire data. I would prefer to run 6" tires as there easier to get up to temp.

Just drop an email to BBS-USA. Theyre cool.

I have tried conatcting the email addresses on the BBS USA website from 3 different accounts, but they all get bounced back. Does anybody have a contact for them that actually works....?

The ones I have tried are racing@bbs-usa.com, and sales@bbs-usa.com.... but neither worked for me. Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem with their email system, so I just called. I'm in contact with John Slagle who's in charge of racing wheel sales. Hopefully he won't get mad I'm posting his name here, I need cheap wheels http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif. I'd say call BBS (877.832.8209) and ask for him.

Sam,

Thanks for the BBS contact info.

Much appreciated

Rim size depends on what tire size you want to run.. 6, 7, and 8 being pretty standard. Smaller is obviouly lighter and less mass to heat up, but fatter tires have the potential for grip. Doesn't necessarily happen though. Depends on your setup and tire data.

Until you have tire data, its all hand waving.

Well in that case, anyone have some tire data on Avon tires they're willing to share?

I'm pretty sure this isn't propietary knowledge, because it's in an SAE paper written by the CSU guys:

The ones on Avon's site is for their other Formula car tire....I forgot which formula it was but they are not the same compound/construction used for the FSAE car(though if you want you can probably use it)....

Avon's and other common FSAE compound data are available in the Tire Testing Consortium....you just have to buy it.

Much thanks to both of you.

Can anyone who has run the BBS wheels comment on their performance? I know they look good, and are relatively light and cheap, but has anyone had any problems with deflection? We are hoping to switch from Keizer to BBS, so I think our deflection issues should be helped substancially.

Thanks
