hi i'm jongwook from kaist and i'm working with engine now.
Because we are using the same engine with Texas A&M's 08 car, i often go to their website and see some pictures posted there.
What made me curious was the position of injector, because there were no injectors attached to each runner but just one injector was attached to the plenum.(Maybe I just couldn't find them) Is there any special reason for that kind of design? Also, I will appreciate if you tell me how to assemble(not by welding) the parts of intake system perfectly.

Can't say for their car, but some teams will run injectors into the plenum so that at high rev's (10k+) the fuel has more time to break down before it reaches the valves. They usually have them pointed right at the valves, going down straight runners.

If you're running an Aprilia (like A&M in 08) at 10K+, you'll probably have a pretty short year

Point taken, was just trying to help him out, didn't know they were running an Aprilia. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

JJW, I have no idea why they would run the injectors up so high, I think they switched to hybrid this year though, might be a good idea to look at some cars that will still be competing with this engine, there was a thread on it a few days back. I think that running them that high might also decrease fuel economy, but don't quote me on that.

A&M has their injectors close to the cylinder heads, not in the plenum. What you are seeing is an air temp and MAP gauge on the plenum.

I can agree with that.

Our car fell to electrical problems at Detroit, and then the Aprilia decided that it really didn't like being a single piece of equipment anymore right before California.

If I can give any advice to teams choosing to use the Aprilia, it is this: use a Yamaha or Honda.

Yeah, we've gotten that from everyone running the Aprilia.

So we switched to it. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
