Rack and pinion dimensions

Actually this is the first time we will be participating in fsae.

we plan on using a honda cbr 600cc engine.

i was wondering if anybody could tell me what should be the dimensions of the rack and pinion we plan to use for the steering.

You need to figure out how much rack travel you need from your steering geometry and then choose a pinion that gives you a suitable gear ratio between the wheels and the steering wheel. To give you some numbers; For our 07 car I used about 25 mm of travel and a 16 teeth module 2 pinion which gave a ratio of about 1:4 (heavy steering, but no need to shift hands when driving).
