This is probably a retarded question, but what are those?

lol I like your intake manifold design. I was thinking of a Log plenum design. You ever think about a dual log plenum? If so...how come you decided not to use it...

They are indeed centerlock hubs.

CSUN car looks good. Satin finish is my new favorite thing in photoworks.

Gonna try to do up somethin of the whole wheel assembly today, and hopefully update our website.

pablo180 or any member of the CSUN team

what do you make your chain tensioner out of?
How do you keep tension on the chain?

Pathak,
We were thinking about going with a dual log plenum but decided to keep things simple and went with a single log. This year we are going with a prototyped intake instead of the log to reduce manufacturing time and get better torque curves.

LD,
The tensioner itself is made up of 2 parts. The bracket is made out of steel and is bolted on to the rear box. Initally it was made out of aluminum but after testing it would bend out of shape. The bearing is bolted on to the bracket with a piece of delrin pressed around the bearing. You can see the initial design in one of our photos on our website. To tension the chain there is a slot on the bracket to apply tension. The design worked pretty well for us. We're trying this year to have a spring loaded version.

....Prototype... lol Any hint to what kinda plenum shape? or is it something unreal like variables intakes or something...well it cant be variable runners or plenum since that definitely wouldnt reduce manufacturing time...
lets see how "pretty" ur solidworks model looks of ur new prototype..intake...

haha

Still working the shape/analysis out. Nothing variable. Its amazing what you can do with the ABS prototyped intakes. Pretty much any kind of geometry you want. There are a couple of other schools running this. Check out stratasys.com for examples of prototyped abs parts.

Are you going to use the prototyped intake as a positive for a mold? I'd be worried about the shear capacity between the layers of the prototype, especially in a fatigued part with a decent amount of force on it.

We're planning on using it directly as a working part. We initally got the idea from another school. Cal Poly Pomona is running something like this. In addition to that we saw a similar material being used to run intake concepts on full size vehicles before it went into manufacturing. Of course once the part was verified for mass production it would be made out of a different material. But for limited use, like in our case, it has proven fine for them.

heh...thats what i get for typing too fast. I'd like to take a look at the website you are talking about, but I didnt see it in your post. I dont know what materials the intake engineer has looked at other than ABS but i'll be sure to mention the others to him when i see him. Variable intake sound like fun, but a lot of development. Since this is our first run with this type of resource we're gonna try and keep it simple.

I am not the intake engineer but I would venture to say that Ram Air effect on our competition would not have any noticible gains due to the speeds that we see at the comp and the size of the restrictor. 100 mph analysis is a bit off of the scope of these cars. How are you doing your analysis of your intake?

Yes, Ricardo is a very powerful program. From what i've seen from last years team and this years team, it takes a LOT of time to get a model going. Make sure that when you have a direction you want to go in, that you leave plenty of time to model it in Wave.

Unfortunately I cannot give you that data because I didnt do the analysis on the intake last year.

ah. Yeah ricardo is too good. Takes a while to get what u want done though.
