Just wondering if any teams have successfully run the garrett GT12 turbo without watercooling the centre bearing housing. If so, did the bearings live or did oil heat soak destroy them quickly if the engine is shut off suddenly after hard running. Last year we got the turbo running with watercooling, but it was a complicated water system, which were trying to avoid this year.

We haven't even hooked up the water yet. No problems so far. Our installation might not permit a water hookup, but I haven't had the time to really look at it yet.

You don't need to water cool your center section as long as you follow proper cool down proceedures after a hard run.(leave it running for a few minutes) Water cooling it will just help keep the center section cooler and help prevent oil coking (sp?) which will choke your oil supply and wreck the bearings, but it is not necessary.
