Hi our fsae team is just starting up
some questions:
what do you guys use for spindles(the rod that connects the upright to the hub bearings)?
and for hubs?
What do you use for hub bearings?
Ive seen wilwood sells hubs has anyone used them?
Thanks for helping out

We have always used custom CNC'd aluminum (6061) hubs... and if I am clear on what a spindle is, we make them ourselves out of steel bar (?).

Hi all
Could anyone share info as to of the shelf hubs and axles/spindles that can be used.
I have keizers 6.5*13 and just want to connect them already!!!
Weight is not an issue as this is a prototype car.
Thanks

We have used four wheeler hubs on machined spindles. I believe we have used parts from both Polaris and Yamaha. Go to a couple of dealers and check out different models to see if there is anything usefull.

Yes "four wheeler" as in ATV. At the very least you would likely need to machine your own spindle, so this might not work out for you.

Hi again
If I machine my own hub out of 6061 or 7075 would this require thermal treatments afterwards?
Same question for the spindle.
Darn! I was sure I could buy these parts over the counter...

Jeniffer,

If you're using 6061 or 7075, then you can buy it in what's known as T6 condition, i.e. 7075-T6, which is fully heat treated. It still machines easily, so there's no worries there.
