Are there any teams press fitting wheel studs into custom made hubs. If so what type of tolerance are you using. We were going to go with -.005 inch diameter hole compared to stud size, does this sounds pretty close?

because they (usually) have small splines, it is difficult to generalize..

I suggest very strongly that you make a few (test) plates (using similar geometry), and try a few different fits

*Edit* I'm not sure this is what you are asking, but anyway... *Edit*

My advice- use 0.001-0.0005" interference, but you should always look fits up in Machinery Handbook . Use drill rod for your dogs (studs) and ream the holes in your hub. If the hole in your hub and corresponding hole in your wheel are blind then the dog can't fall out so you needn't worry about a large interference fit.

Typical studs have a spline and a shoulder. Ream the hole to the shoulder, and let the splines keep the stud from turning. I've pushed studs into FSAE hubs in this manner for five years, and only had one ever spin on me (about a year after it had completed its endurance run).
