I have been looking at the Risse Racing company for coil spring shock and dampers, I want to know if anyone could inform me about their quality of products.

We got a set.. the bores for the spherical bearings on either end, the tolerance should be on the order of -.0000 +.0005. We got them +/- .003. Very much out of spec. The seals were also way tight/sticky and really dampened movement.

We sent em back, they're replacing everything and even pressed our bearings in, and are checking all the seals, etc. Should be great now. We'll see when they come in.

We have used them for 2 years and found them to be poor. We sent the shocks back to get them revalved and rebuilt and they came back leaking nitrogen. Not to mention that the dyno graphs they sent us back with the shocks were all different. They also neglected to mark what graph went with the corresponding shock, and they also forgot to include units with the graphs. So this year we decided to go with Ohlins.

Hello Scott! Thanks for all the info! I don't know if you're still reading this topic. If so, I'd like to know if you have any kind of service to send the dampers to europe, and what would the cost be.

Thank you again.

I don't think scott is doing ohlins anymore, give motorsports spares intl. a call and ask for the ohlins department, they should be able to answer any of your questions.

Got our Risse shocks back. Looks like they're much better now. But we'll see.

If you are even considering Ohlins, dont forget to take a look at Koni. They have a couple options for horizontal mounting, and one option for vertical which are practical for FSAE. They also build to spec, which results in about a 6 week lead time, but hopefully they will be worth the wait.

Hi Guys/Girls,

It's true that I am no longer working for Ohlins but if you call MSI (the Öhlins importer in the USA) they will still be more than happy to help FSAE teams out, ask for Greg or Kevin. It's also true that the compression adjuster on the St44 is not the most powerful in the world but remember that a crank driven dyno (sine wave) doesn't always show the whole picture.

Cheers,
