This is mostly a question for all the 4cyl/600cc teams. How big is your fuel tank, and have you ever seen scavenging issues durring the endurance. Also what kind of baffling/ fuel cell foam do you use?

Thanks,

Look at the results from last year and you will see how much fuel each team burnt. That gives you rough capacity criteria. Use fuel safe foam. It only displaces 2% of its volume. As far as baffles and scavenging it is like asking about suspension settings. It all depends on the shape your tank volume is going to work in, type of pump and pickups, etc. I would start by working out your tanks control volume and then ask the question.

Ours is about 7 litres.
That's including an internal baffled sump.

At the top of the spreadsheet it claims min used was 0.61 and max was 1.51 gallons, yet if you look at Manitoba's result they used 1.929 gallons. ?????????

We used just under a gallon of fuel driving 'easy' so things wouldn't break.

This year our tank will be about 1.4 gallons.

You could look at your volume consumed last year, and if you have engine simulation data, compare brake specific fuel consumption values of the current car to the previous car, as well as peak hp.

This would only be for comparison's sake, as it will not yield you a magical volume unless you get clever and pair it with lap sim or real data. But you can still yell at people about how the engine is more efficient.

Oh, and we use a little 'pick up box' centrally located on the tank. Couple of inches by an inch.

Never performed CFD or any real analysis, it just seems to work so we use it.

Anyone think it useful to CFD the gas tank?
