we make ours in house! and have found out that it is a lot lighter than then ones that we have found of the same size!

also then you can mount it how you want to rather than how that company tells you!

They are all alum housing, but you want the steel gears...

Depending on the tooth size, 7075 aluminum gears are more than adequate, even in a helical gear (which inherently has higher stresses, but gets a better mesh).

For those particular racks, people have recommended to me to use the steel gears. And I believe them because each of our racks eventually gets a bit sloppy after each year.

i've got 2 questions -
adrial, where are these guys "stilleto racks" located or do they have any e-portal from where i could buy one?
secondly as far as Al racks are considered, i agree that they do wear out in due course of time but are they good enough for 1 comp for the weight they save?

It's possible to use only tooth made from steel mounted on the sliding member and the same with axle.

Al racks should last you at least through a comp or two.

Another option is a composite rack...I made one at WWU that had a minimum of steel teeth fastened to an aluminum carrier...but a plain Al rack is going to be easier, and probably lighter.
