for the fsae, it is not neccessary to design a gearbox. you can use a motorcycle engine with gearbox equiped in it. all the fsae teams are using this situation.
Anybody correct me if I am wrong.

Fixed gearbox gears, but you still gotta decide on a final drive ratio. This is the question of the post, the way I read it.
