I am experimenting with a new EMS setup for our GSXR 600 motor, and I cannot figure out how many teeth the stock trigger wheel has. It is hanging out behind the starter clutch and we don't have the special tool to remove it. I would really like to try and impliment the stock trigger setup.
Alternatively, is there any other place that I might mount a trigger wheel?
Oh, and it is a 2005(k5) gixxer motor.

Can you mark a tooth and rotate it to count?
that's impossible http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I cant even see any teeth. I can barely even see the sensor itself; it almost looks like a VR.

I don't know if this will work or not but try using a DMM or a O-scope hooked to the sensor wires and turning the motor by hand and count the pulses. Do you have a service manual? We run an F4i and in the wiring schematic for the bike it shows how many teeth are on the Cam, Crank and VSS sensors.

we are trying to get ahold of a scope, but our department is being stubborn. With a DMM, we just check for a voltage change for a hall sensor, is it the same if it is a VR?

Just for the record, the stock 04-05 GSXR crank trigger is a 24-2 wheel with a VR sensor.
Not sure what we will do now, but the PE 12-1 crank wheel is looking pretty nice now...
Does anyone know if the stock gixxer trigger can come off without taking the engine apart? From the looks of it and in the service manual, I wont be able to get it off without removing the timing setup http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

you are gonna have to remove the head to get the trigger wheel out, its kinda of annoying but t has to be done, it will be easiest for you to take out the one that is in there now and just remove the teeth, thats what we will do on our newest motor, since with the pe you have to weld on the wheel to a stock wheel kinda thing.

the timing set up isn't hard to get back into place at all, so don't be intimidated by it.
easiest way to do it: turn the engine by hand, with the valve cover off, so you can see the markings on the side of the cam (there should be a letter A and B on each of the cams)...match it up to where they should be according to the manual, (at that point, the engine is alread set up for when you put it back togeher) and then pull the cams out, and the chain tensioner and pull off the head...
I think you've got it from there...
just follow the manual instructions to put it back together following the markings on the cams and the 14 (? I think its 14-its been a while since I had to do this) chain links from one point of one cam to the other and all that jazz...
good luck
