like the title says...I have tried converting the solidworks drawing but it only loads in inventor as surfaces and can't be used to model.

Open it in SolidWorks and save as either a stp or igs and import into Inventor. It should work.

save as a step or an sat
sat is a better format for Autodesk products (since that's what AutoCAD uses as it's 3d file format)

I got the igs file off of the share thread and it opens in inventor like I descibed. It is just surfaces and is unusable. I also don't have solidworks to open and convert to a step or sat file.

I uploaded .stp versions of the caliper parts to The Library (http://fsae.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/125607348/m/99010410831) .

They're a few conversions removed from the original format now so I make no promises.
Let me know if it works for you.
