Hi, I am a student at University of California Irvine. We are a 1st year team, so any advice is welcomed. I have a question about spindles. I have made uprights out of 6061 AL, and I was thinking about making fixed spindles and attaching them to the uprights. Is this a good idea? I was thinking of making the spindles out of 1018 steel. Is this a reasonable choice for material? And also does any type of treatment have to be done to the metal? Thanks

First of all, congrats, good luck and props for being another West Coast team! We're also a first year team, and you're definitely at the right place to start out. The first thing people will tell you is the search button is your friend. Any question you may have has probably already been asked and discussed. But, to let you off easy this time...
