What are the basic points to be kept in mind before designing a formula student chassis?
I mean like rear suspension box should be square or rectangular?
What are the things needed to make car aerodynamically more stable?
Should the height of car be low or high?
And rest of the stuff like this.

I'll be nice to you.
1. READ THE RULES!
2. read the rules again
3. don't worry about aerodynamics. make the body kind of round.
4. The center of gravity of the car should be kept low as to not roll over.
5.read up on frame design look in the books section of the forum.
6. talk with the guy designing the suspension system build the frame in consequence (so you don't end up with a suspension mount in the middle of a tube).

Simplicity, functionality, load trasnfer & paths and triangulation. You can over design, and you can just design. Guess which one's requires the least amount of work, and go with the other option.

I mean like rear suspension box should be square or rectangular?

Your call. People have done either, neither and none. Look at award winning chassis and
question why they came to be award winning chassis's. Great example, Sophia FSTotal, google search that.

What are the things needed to make car aerodynamically more stable?

Background in aerodynamics. Don't expect the get credit or points for designing a wing without knowing why it works, and test results showing its effectivenessat a vareity of conditions. Also, don't design just one.

Should the height of car be low or high?

What is longitudinal and lateral weight transfer?

And rest of the stuff like this.

I am by no means a professional. Do some reading and searching aroudn these parts, there are some gold mines to be found. Before you design and optimize something, think about how you're going to manufacture it. Simplicity and iteration upon iteration show engineering thought. I THINK ANYWAY. Feel free to correct me someone!

Hi there,
i actually need some help for my final year project.
i am a mechanical student and i have got a project concerning formula student chassis. but i dont know much about the formula student chassis.what does this chassis consist of exactly, e.g suspension driving axle etc?
also what type of dynamic force will there be on the chassis?
my project is on dynamic analysis of a formula student chassis

Thanks
Yudhir

hey Yuvraj,
read the sticky threads first, in between which coll are you from and you guys participating in which competition?

1-Read and understand rules well.
2-Read that book Racing and sports car chassis design.
3-keep in mind ergonomics and your driver data.
4-keep in contact with suspension team.
5-Load path and triangulation and experience for chassis guy is required so see all designs you can see and try learn from and understand how was they worked.

C.G height is goal for all team members and it's very obvious for all that more low is useful for all i really try find disadvantage for low c.g but can't find.
